Mission Statement

The Cuban Art Song Project (CASP) seeks to promote underperformed Cuban art song, zarzuela, and popular music and to encourage the integration of these songs into the canon of regularly performed art music through the development of professional recordings, concerts, and educational resources.

2025 brought landmark achievements for CASP: we released our debut album, received our 501(c)(3) status, and directed 84% of our budget to supporting artists. In 2026, we embark on our next big project: a multi-volume series that will include albums and sheet music anthologies. I’m overwhelmed by the outpouring of love for our debut album this year! Se fue was released digitally in July and I had hoped we would break 1,000 streams. As of this month CASP has nearly 50,000 streams from 22,000 listeners all over the world and I couldn’t be more grateful. Thanks to our band, engineers, producers, and label partners who made all of this possible!

I’ve been taking a little break since our vinyl release party last month to focus on other projects, but I can’t wait to share all of the exciting things the Cuban Art Song Project has planned for 2026. Thank you for listening!!

This year CASP began the process of becoming an official nonprofit, brought concerts to audiences across the Northeast, released our debut album “Se fue” on streaming and vinyl, and provided sheet music to musicians and educational institutions. Se fue’ is the debut album of the Cuban Art Song Project, a collective that presents traditional Cuban songs to a modern audience.

‘Se fue’ features the work of Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona, nicknamed the “Gershwin of Cuba”. His songs were huge hits in their day but many are relatively unknown to modern audiences. “Se fue” presents Lecuona’s music with custom arrangements and an ensemble including classical soprano, Isabella Lamadriz, Latin music maestro, Pablo Zinger, tango virtuoso, Pedro Giraudo and Cuban specialist, Takafumi Nikaido.

‘Se fue’ will transport you to the nightclubs of old Havana, perfect for your daily commute, to set the vibe for a cocktail party, or to take a brief, sonic vacation. Recording Academy voters, please consider including “Se fue” in your Tropical Latin nominations.

This will be a night to remember with Cuban food, a cash bar, party favors, and a live performance of the full album by the Cuban Art Song Project band! It’s been 4 months since the Cuban Art Song Project released its debut single “Habanera tú”. Since then we have amassed over 10,000 streams on Habanera tú, released 2 other singles and just last week released CASP’s debut album of Lecuona songs, “Se fue”.

It’s been a year of heavy work and grit to release this music and I couldn’t do it without CASP’s team. I was hopeful you all would love the album as much as I do. It is such a joy to hear from you and watch this music reach new audiences and countries. We’ve only just begun our mission…

Each month CASP highlights a petite version of our favorite Cuban songs. May’s selection is Sánchez de Fuentes’ “Habanera tú”. If you’ve been following CASP you’ll recognize this tune as our first single (released two weeks ago). A love letter to Cuba, this song is held near and dear to our hearts.
